I am excited to be speaking just a couple of days, Saturday April 16, 2001 12:30 pm at Lake Norman’s first annual Backyard Wildlife Fair, hosted by Duke Energy and sponsored by Federal, State and Local Wildlife Federations and local habitat groups. I have been invited to speak on the effects of synthetic fertilizers on lake water and habitats, and successful Organic Soil Fertility approaches.
I recently attended a half day seminar hosted by the EPA on the effects of nutrient run-off on lakes. I am anxious to share my knowledge with others who are no doubt unaware of the effects that modern practices have on our water resources. This is of course a topic near to my heart as I have seen first hand the devastating effects nutrient run-off can have on aquatic eco-systems. I grew up around the Chesapeake Bay which fights still to recover from decades of fertilizer run-off.
We can make a difference. It all starts with knowledge. Please join me and hundreds of other others fat the Backyard Wildlife Fair on April 16th 2011 at the Duke Energy McQuire Nuclear Station in Huntersville, NC from 11 – 3 for some outdoor fun and to learn how you can make the world we share a better place – Please be kind in your fertilizing practices and Join The Circle for regular updates and offerings.

With the Thanksgiving Holiday just a few days away, I got to thinking about the things we may not often think about – but should all be most thankful for. This time of the year, it is common to think about the food on our table; our friends and our families, and, hopefully our health. These are things each of us cherish and vigorously protect.
But what about the simple things we don’t usually think of? Like Water. Our most precious resource is also one which we ALL (to one degree or another) waste and pollute each and every day. Think about this . . . To what ends would you go to protect your family? Most likely you are thinking “with my life”. If you want to protect your family and your family’s future, we must protect our water. Our health and well being is entirely dependent on water. Without it – there is no food – without food – no family and no future. And so, we must protect our water as our most precious natural resource. It does not require you to lay down your life, just change your life habits, and encourage others to do so as well. There are many ways you can protect water resources.
One great idea for conservation is the brainchild of our product development partner, Ron Danise. Ron has a unique suggestion for home recycling…stuff used paper towels into the empty rolls they came on, then bury those rolls vertically (using a small bulb planter or mini-drill sized auger). Hard or compacted soils, (such as the clay in the piedmont of Carolina) will also be aerated and improved by placing used paper towels into the ground. Within days the paper towels will become a food source for microbes and worms in the soil and will be broken down to create organic matter within the soil.
The worm has long been recognized as the workhorse of the soil but its positive effect on water quality is truly astounding. By introducing worms and microbes into your soil you will be reducing water usage and protecting water quality. Healthy water starts with healthy soil. Worms build healthy soils. Healthy soils build healthy plants and ultimately result in less water required as the plant has better roots, water used will have better penetration, also providing enhanced natural filtration (and thereby less run-off of pollutants)…increased ‘organic’ content and increased living soil populations allowing access to nutrients commonly bound in the soil – all of which will lead to a reduction of fertilizers and chemicals your plantings require. This practice would keep millions of tons of paper out of our landfills and municipal recycling facilities…saving millions of gallons of water each day!
Of course, we recommend an organic and natural approach to lawn care and more sustainable practices for horticulture and agriculture…that’s our business. But there are lots of other simple things we can all do to achieve greater sustainablility – check out the website http://wateruseitwisely.com/
And the article : http://www.sheknows.com/living/articles/807943/water-conservation-get-the-facts as well as many other on line resource for lots of practical information and suggestions on saving and protecting H20.
So this year be thankful for WATER . . . and worms !

If you are a commercial landscaper or home-owner concerned about the cost and effects of the chemical cycle of feeding your lawn, and the harmful effects of nutrient run-off…NOW is a great time to take steps towards a more sensible and sustainable approach.
Circle Organics products were developed over thirty years to work as nature intended and have been used with great success on lawns, college campuses & athletic fields, and recently “cover to cover” on a well known South Carolina golf course.
The results are = ” E3 ”
A South Carolina Golf Course Shows Dramatic Root Growth!
EFFECTIVE
Use and implementation of a ‘programmed’ organic approach, including the introduction of beneficial microbes, has proven to be highly effective in creating deep strong roots effectively sustaining thick green turf which is resistant to disease and drought. In addition to helping turf access nutrients and trace minerals bound within the soil, microbial colonies also pull both water and nitrogen from the atmosphere delivering these essential components directly to the root-zone !
ECONOMICAL
Because Roots are stronger, turf will perform especially well in stressful times. The advantages provide the benefits of reduced chemical inputs such as fertilizer and pesticides by an average of 30 -35%. Additionally, properties under maintenance can expect a significant reduction in watering needs. The Mays River Golf Club reported reducing their watering by 20 – 30%. Our products are also economical because they are highly concentrated for great coverage value.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
It has been estimated that nearly 80% of all fertilizers we apply to our lawns and farm fields will be in our natural water system within two weeks of application. Among the many common issues of nutrient run-off, Nitrogen and Phosphorous are having significantly harmful effects on many of natural surface water eco-systems.
Don’t Wait! Add Life to your Lawn! Now is a great time to begin your conversion to sustainable lawn care. After this year’s Fall season Core -Aeration, apply our liquid concentrate ECO-BOOST (1 oz treats 3,000 sq feet ) directly to the ground area as prescribed soon after your aeration. The colony forming beneficial microbes will have the advantage of being introduced directly into the root-zone where they will begin to serve the plant and purpose as nature intended. You will see the results – especially when your neighbor or competitor has a lawn that is struggling!

While attending the Independent Garden Centers 2010 Show in Chicago, it occurred to me that the move to more “organic” and “sustainable” landscape practices is really all about what happens underground – below the soil. When we claim that our products “bring your soil to life”, what does that actually mean? We see our products as part of the intrinsic, natural system whereby amendments and fertilizers “build-up” the soil…then, the soil builds up the plants…and, the plants, in turn, build up our eco-system. The millions of microbes and nutrients contained in our bottles and bags act as a catalyst in this chain of feeding and sustaining the Earth. So, with that in mind, we can focus on what our two “flagship” products do best. Pure CastingsTM (the purest form of worm castings), and Eco-BoostTM (derived from the same pure castings) are %100 organic, meaning they are safe for families, pets and the environment and %100 beneficial to the soil in any lawn or garden.
Produced from worms living on a proprietary diet, our Pure CastingsTM are essentially the first step to healthy topsoil. Pure Castings is a developed blend of minerals, nutrients and living microscopic organisms (free of weeds, seeds, or animal waste). Our Pure CastingsTM are a result of a scientifically-developed diet of components known to promote naturally healthy soils and plants. For landscapers and consumers, the fact that the castings are odorless makes them pleasant to use in residential and commercial settings. For retailers, the castings provide a totally organic alternative to entice today’s green-savvy customers.
The end result is fertilized topsoil that boosts healthy plant growth for any lawn or garden. Similar to Pure CastingsTM in its derived formula, Eco-BoostTM is a liquid soil amendment that seeps further than the soil and into a plant’s roots. This highly concentrated product includes 13 varieties of Endo/Ecto Mycorrhizae- a complex and diverse blend of living beneficial microbes comprised of more than 40 varieties, totaling 13.89 million plus CFUs (colony forming units) per fluid ounce! Also, notably, this includes several different types of Archaea. It also includes liquid humates, proteins, amino acids and even, yucca and North American sea kelp. In action, these powerful ingredients increase a plant’s health and therefore its ability to resist drought, disease and pests. Our field tests have proven that the effect of this natural, organic approach is that, compared with a purely synthetic approach, fewer applications are necessary. Effectiveness is dependent upon what occurs in nature….a proven bio-system and bio-mechanism that has been around for millions of years. So, when we say that we can “bring your soil to life”, we know that what’s in our products is also found in nature and provides the ideal envrionment for a healthy growing medium…”life”!
